Program Description and Purpose

Established in 2010, our nine-month long NALCAB Colegio Fellowship program is designed to ensure next generation Latinos develop practical personal and professional skills to fill the increasing leadership gap in community and economic development corporations which serve low-income Latino communities across the country.

NALCAB seeks motivated individuals who demonstrate creativity and a strong desire to further their knowledge of community economic development strategies currently in use around the country. Previous NALCAB Colegio Fellowship recipients held a variety of positions within nonprofit community development corporations, including:

  • Center Managers
  • Chair of Board of Directors
  • Program Coordinators & Directors
  • Director of Fund Development
  • Program Dates

The fellowship training will begin in November 2011 and continue through August 2012. Sessions will be held on a monthly basis through a serious of webinars and three in person trainings. A detailed agenda is found when you download the application.

Coursework/Curricula

Fellows are required to participate in all trainings sessions and programs in their entirety, including a week long kick-off at NALCAB's National Conference from Nov. 28 - Dec. 2. This program requires considerable commitment and attention and is not recommended for candidates going through a personal or professional transition.

Session topics will include:

  • Understanding Your Leadership Style and Learning to Advocate your Impact
  • Making it Happen: Learning from Leaders in the Field
  • Learning from Seasoned Latino Leaders

Participant Profile

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for NALCAB Colegio Community and Economic Development Fellowship:

  • Must have a demonstrated commitment and passion to serve low to moderate income Latino communities through community economic development
  • At minimum two (2) years of experience working in community economic development. Individuals must be currently employed in either community development corporations or financial institutions dedicated to community development.
    * NALCAB is dedicated to professional development across all levels of experience, however applicants with more than eight (8) years of experience may not be considered for the fellowship program.
  • Be committed to participating in ALL Colegio related trainings, webinars, and special events.
  • Be committed to developing personal and professional leadership skills to enhance your organization's mission and build upon current programs and projects.
  • Have support from their current organization to participate in a nine (9) month fellowship program.

  • Letter of support from your organization's executive director, including recognition of the time required away for full participation both in and out of the office over the nine-month period.
