Fellowship Class of 2012

Sunday, November 27, 2011 through Wednesday, November 30th
The second class of 14 fellows from 11 different states gathered on Sunday to begin their NALCAB Colegio journey. The Fellows spent the first two days strengthening their personal and professional relationships with peers, while exploring leadership concepts such as:
- Leadership Development
- Best Practices of Leadership and Cultural Awareness
- Personal 360 Assessment from the Leadership Practices Inventory
On Tuesday, the fellows joined 40 other leaders from across the country to learn more about developing successful programs to support entrepreneurs. Finally, on Wednesday all fellows advocated for their organizations and programs through congressional visits. Above is a map highlighting the home states of the 2012 fellowship class.

Monday, November 28th

The inaugural class joined the newest fellows for an informal mixer to build relationships just prior to a embarking on their final two days of training and graduation. The first day 2011 fellows learned key concepts of media literacy including:
- Form and Function of Message
- Best Practices of Message Development
- Role of media
- Effective Tips to Building a Successful Press Conference.
Fellows were given the opportunity to practice their message through role play and interviews with media. The fellows concluded the day learning from Ivan Zapien, Senior Lobbyist at Wal-Mart and former Chief of Staff of Senator Menendez on the “Ins and Outs of Washington Advocacy."
Congressional Visits by Fellows
Wednesday, November 30th
The 2011 and 2012 classes of fellows came together to learn effective methods of public policy advocacy. Key concepts discussed included stakeholder and issue analyses. Fellows were joined by former Kansas State Representative,Delia Garcia, the first Latina elected to the Legislature, who provided insight on meeting with elected officials and covered everything from dress code to thank you notes. By noon, all fellows were off to the Hill to visit with their respective members of Congress, a total of 10 visits were made.
