Ms. Irene Chavez is NALCAB’s Director for Resource Development and Strategic Communications. With more than 18 years of experience in communication, small business development, supplier diversity and economic development we feel she fills this position very well.

Prior to joining NALCAB, Irene was the first Executive Director of the Maestro Entrepreneur Center; a non-profit center that houses a culinary incubator, business incubator and provides specialized programming created to assist existing small, minority, woman and veteran-owned businesses. She established collaborative efforts with community groups, funders, political leaders, and other organizations to successfully achieve the goals of the organization. While working for the City of San Antonio’s Economic Development Department, she was named one of the San Antonio Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Rising Stars. She has also been honored with the North Chamber of Commerce’s Athena Young Professional Leadership Award and the SBA Small Business Champion of the Year.

Irene currently serves on board of directors for the Cesar E. Chavez Legacy and Educational Foundation and the LGBT Chamber of Commerce. She is also the District 7 appointee for the City of San Antonio’s Small Business Advocacy Committee. She holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication and is also completing her MBA at St. Mary’s University.

She is a single mother to three beautiful children, Alex (19), Maya (9) and Jojo (8). When not doing homework, Irene is an established writer whose last play was performed at the Guadalupe Theatre.
